Estimate the Number of Treatments for Tattoo Removal
The authors of this original research, Drs. William Kirby, Tejas Desai and others, recognizing that “it has been difficult to quantify the number of laser treatments required with certainty when discussing laser tattoo removal” set out to try to quantify the number of treatments estimated to achieve complete laser tattoo removal. They found that six parameters could each be given a point value and the total number of points would approximate (with almost 80% precision) the number of treatments required. The six areas are: skin type, location of tattoo, color of tattoo ink, amount of ink, scarring, and layering. They concluded that “by incorporating the Kirby-Desai scale into the art of laser tattoo removal, medical professionals will be able to better estimate the required number of patient treatments.”
The following is a presentation of the Kirby-Desai Scale* which will allow patients to estimate for themselves about how many treatments will be required for Laser Tattoo Removal. The way to use the scale is to add your number of points in each of the six tables. The total number of points will give you and Dr. Gold an estimate of the number of treatments you will need (with about an 80% accuracy rate). The ideal interval between treatments is 8 weeks. This gives your body’s scavenger cells enough time to ingest and remove the particles of ink that have been broken up by the laser.
